  • The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) was created in 1989 to provide research partnerships between faculty and first- and second-year students. The program has aimed to engage students early in their academic careers in the excitement of research and to provide a variety of support services to facilitate successful experiences for both faculty and students.

UROP has been supported by the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science & Arts; Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR); Office of the Provost; Coca Cola Foundation; National Science Foundation; W.K.Kellogg Foundation, DuPont; Chrysler Corporation; Howard Hughes Medical Institute; Baldwin Foundation; the State of Michigan; Office of Equity, U.S. Department of Education; and Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Eduation (FIPSE), U.S. Department of Education.
